Hello, I’m Thomas Baggaley. I’m a composer and a music educator, and I’d like to invite you to listen to my new podcast for creative people called “A Composer In His Natural Habitat.”

In each episode, I try to share an aspect of my creative process - my creative life - with you. What this means is that I talk about some of the projects I’ve been working on - some of the challenges I’ve run into as well as some of the successes. And then, there’s a main topic - a “theme of the day” if you will - that we discuss. Sometimes it’s a specific kind of project like video game music or film music. Sometimes it’s an aspect of music or composition, like where does music theory fit into all of this? Or how do you know when you've written something that's any good? But often it’s something broader like an aspect of career building for creative people.

Usually, I’m joined by friends and colleagues on the show, and we talk about the kinds of things they’re working on too. They come from all kinds of creative backgrounds - many of them are not composers. It helps, because I like to hear their thoughts on the day’s topic as well.

Really, I’m trying to build a kind of community of creative people through the show. We have a Discord channel where we can get together - listeners and people who have been on the podcast - and we can talk about the different challenges creative people face. I hope it will be a place where people can go and feel understood and supported - and maybe even find some help if they need it.

Everybody’s inherently creative - We’re born that way. But sometimes … the practical side of life tries to beat it out of us. You know, that’s sad. Everyone should have some sort of creative outlet - something they enjoy.
